Jaipur declared a UNESCO World Heritage City
The “Pink City” of Jaipur was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in July 2019.
The historic walled city was founded in 1727 AD under the patronage of Sawai Jai Singh II. It is one of India’s most popular travel destinations with its forts, palaces, step wells, colourful markets and fine jewellery and is the capital city of the culturally rich state of Rajasthan.
According to UNESCO the city shows an interchange of ancient Hindu, Mughal and contemporary Western ideas.
Jaipur is home to some charming royal residences or “havelis” as well as one of the most luxurious palace hotels in the world, the Ram Bagh Palace.
